๐จ NEW NOHA U9 PROGRAMMING UPDATE – WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU! ๐จ
๐ฃ Calling all
hockey families with 2017-2018 born players!
Beginning in the 2025/26 season, the Northern Ontario
Hockey Association (NOHA) is implementing a Program-Based Selection
Model for U9 hockey across the region. This exciting shift is designed
to make things clearer, fairer, and more consistent for families –
and we're here for it. ๐ช
Here’s what you need to know:
๐น No More Jumping Between Associations for Tier 1
All U9 programming will remain house league format with skill-based tiering
within associations (yes, including Tier 1!). Families will now
register based on program quality, not just team labels.
๐น One Association. One Commitment.
Players will register with one association only – no more trying
out for multiple teams. This helps reduce stress and keep things consistent for
players and parents.
๐น New Release Freeze Period
โณ From September
7-21, a “release freeze” will ensure evaluations run smoothly without
players switching associations.
๐น Evaluation Focus
Tier 1 teams will be selected through fair evaluations – and everyone not
selected will continue to thrive in Tier 2. It’s about development for every player,
not just the most advanced.
